Cathedral High School Principal - Mr. Paul Hazuka
Mr. Hazuka is no stranger to Cathedral High School. He has worked in the NUACS system for the past 35 years, both as a history and social studies teacher and as a coach. At CHS, Hazuka chairs the Social Studies Department, serves on the curriculum committee, and is a leader in the use of innovative technology in the classroom. Additionally, he has been a member of the Minnesota River Valley “Rich in American History” cohort and the Minnesota State High School League.
In addition to his work as a teacher and coach, Mr. Hazuka has been active in the New Ulm community, serving as the grounds crew supervisor for Heritagefest, Bavarian Blast, and the Brown County Fair for over 30 years.
Mr. Hazuka brings a passion for Catholic education, thorough knowledge of the NUACS system, and a strong work ethic to his new role as principal at CHS. He is committed to learning and collaborating, along with being an effective leader through relationship building. Both in and out of the classroom, Hazuka fosters and encourages students to become lifelong learners, creative thinkers, and compassionate and responsible individuals.
Msgr. Douglas Grams, NUACS Canonical Administrator, said, “I am excited that Paul Hazuka has accepted the principal position at Cathedral High School. He has been a loyal employee for 35 years and knows the needs of the school. He brings a history and firsthand knowledge of education trends and knows our students and families. As a husband and father, his commitment to his Catholic faith is unwavering. His children attended our Catholic schools, and two grandchildren are currently attending NUACS. I look forward to working with Mr. Hazuka, and know he will be an outstanding addition to the school’s team of administrators.”
Hazuka states, “At New Ulm Area Catholic Schools, we continue to provide quality education with our mission focused on faith, academics, and service. I have had the honor and privilege to teach and coach here for many years. This new role at NUACS is an opportunity to serve God, our very dedicated faculty, those who have invested their children to our care, and our students who are eager to work toward growing into the persons they are capable of becoming. The NUACS community has brought many blessings to my own children, and I look forward to helping the NUACS family prepare for the future.”
Mr. Hazuka is a graduate of Benilde-St. Margaret’s High School and St. John’s University. He is a recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award at Benilde-St. Margaret’s, as well as a member of the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Paul and his wife, Joan, are members of Cathedral of the Holy Trinity parish in New Ulm.
