Who's the Band Teacher?
Greetings to all NUACS Band members and parents. My name is Thomas Bierer. I have been teaching since 1987 when I taught in the Norfolk Catholic Schools in Norfolk, NE, later moving to Mankato to teach at Loyola High School and most recently coming from Holy Trinity Catholic Schools in Winsted, MN. In between all of that I have also taught 5 - 8 Instrumental Music as a Long Term Substitute in the Kasson Mantorville Public Schools and String Orchestra 5 - 12 and Middle School Choir the Blue Earth Area Public Schools. I have been teaching in the New Ulm Catholic schools since 2014. So I have seen and mentored a lot of talented young musicians over time.
My primary instrument is trumpet and I had the honor of studying with some well known orchestral trumpet players from the New York Philharmonic and Chicago Symphony Orchestra's
I continue to play in many different kinds of groups, all styles of music. Living proof that music can be a life long pursuit if you so choose. I also compose music and have released 2 albums of original contemporary Christian songs. You can hear them on YouTube if you like at www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzZWi2mxyWU
I am married to Lisa who is a full time visual artist in Mankato and we have 4 grown adult children and 13 grand children. We are all musical and create artwork of one kind or another. During the summers I enjoy working in my vegetable garden and performing. My wife and I lead music often at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato.
I am happy to be here with you in NUACS and look forward to another wonderful year.
